Pat & Alisa | Maternity

In my head, I’ve had this vision for a while that I wanted to do a maternity session with a floral crown and the Crepe Myrtle trees in bloom. Dreams really do come true guys!!!

When I reached out to Pat and Alisa about assisting me with my vision, they were totally onboard with everything that I wanted to accomplish. Alisa wanted to shoot in downtown Onancock, which never disappoints. With all the shoots that I have done there, I always find something new to appreciate about the town. I love that Onancock is still growing and expanding, yet the landmarks stay the same. I was so thankful that they were willing to help me build and grown my maternity portfolio!

Baskets & Bows in Tasley, VA did an amazing job as always with the crown. I wanted to keep it really green and natural looking with just some touches of white and they totally delivered. They responded to my inquiry super fast, and when I needed to pick it up a little earlier than expected, they were able to handle my request. Not going to lie, I totally had to try it on. It’s a crown, who wouldn’t! As I was driving down to Kerr Place, I realized that all of the Crepe Myrtle trees are in bloom around the Shore. I remembered that Kerr Place had a grove of them at the back of the property. Before Pat and Alisa arrived, I went back to check it out and honestly, I have never seen them look more beautiful!

The whole session with these two was just perfect. After teaching them some basic poses, they started posing themselves perfectly with no direction! Pat and I went to school together, so we talked about where life had taken us over the years and I got to meet Alisa for the first time. She is an absolute sweetheart. I talked a little in one of my Instagram posts about how photographing engagement couples used to be my absolute favorite. I have done maternity, but I really found this new beautiful appreciation for it after this shoot. There is just something about the love between two people that are about to have a child. I’m not sure why it feels different. Maybe it’s because you know life is about to change and you want to appreciate the one on one time that you have together. Maybe it’s because you are more comfortable with your partner than when you were first engaged. Whatever it is, it’s magical and I can’t wait to photograph more couples who are about to embark on this new journey together.

Lordy y’all! Isn’t she stunning? I love how the Crepe Myrtles on the pathway frame these shots.

Seriously, these two black and whites are my favorite images from the shoot. It goes back to my love of film and just the way they are looking at that sweet boy!

Sitting shots can be tricky. If you don’t position your clients right they can look and feel uncomfortable. Pat and Alisa nailed it.

Magic hour glow gets me every time.

We had some cute doggy friends try to get in on some of these images at the end of the shoot! I didn’t take any pictures because we had to stop to pet them.

Seriously y’all, they are perfect.
